Hi, guys!
I know we ended the last class touching base on how language is used to normalize sexism and how many words in the English language are inherently sexist. I think this blog post kind of hits the nail on the head on how people try to justify the use of misogynistic language and how we cannot rationally defend the use of such pejorative terms. I like that she equates some of these sexist terms to racist and homophobic terms because I think it really shows how we have normalized the use of sexist terms. I also like that she touches on the idea of reclaiming words (eg, women saying “bitch” or “cunt”). I tried to find a more reputable source on this topic, but I kind of struggled to find something… perhaps more research needs to be done? What are your thoughts on the topic?
