Walk A Mile In Her Shoes

Moncton woman shares personal story to help other sexual assault survivors

Opinion:
This story was very inspiring. As a young child at the age of 6, Marie-Hélène Michaud was sexually assaulted, then again at age 7, and once again at the age of 17. Marie blamed herself, as many women do, especially for making the choice to go meet a man she met online. While yes, she did agree to meet him but it is not the victim to blame for sexual assault but the perpetrator of the assault. Too often, I believe women don’t speak up because of what they think others will think of them or say about them.
An event that was held in order to raise awareness was the “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” event where men walked a mile in women’s shoes just to get a glimpse of how much pain women go through during and after being sexually assaulted. I think this was something that was pretty awesome because sexual assault, even though it happens to men as well, can take a toll on someone that no one will fully understand unless it happens to them. I wish they held more events like these.

Question:
My question is “what can we do on college campuses to raise more awareness on the issues colleges and universities tend to cover up?”
