The resignation and retirement of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary who for one week was honored as President emeritus and retaining salary and benefits was upgraded to termination. The Washington Post reports that Paige Patterson was fired due to false statements regarding his “treatment of an alleged rape victim in 2003” as well as a 2015 attempt to meet with another victim of sexual assault in order to “break her down.” To say the least, this has made national headlines which is evident that society is leaving no one is exempt from being held accountable in protecting women and sending a strong message that society is deeply committed to protecting and valuing women! Southern Baptist leaders are supporting the executive board for reversing its decision as this institution is clear that their values are aligned with protecting and not marginalizing women or endorsing abusive behavior. According to the article, even though one board member does not believe that the #MeToo Movement has any bearing on their decision to terminate [Patterson] and that it was based on his performance, I believe that the call for accountability and the voice of many have proven to be a catalyst for significant change.
