This particular article is based on a teenager in Sudan who was forced to marry a man who eventually raped her. The victim, Noura, claims she was forced into a child marriage to her own cousin. Noura was only 16 years old when this marriage took place and she refused to have sex with her cousin/husband. She claims that while 3 other relatives were holding her down, she was raped by him. The next day, her husband tried to rape her again. When she tried to stop him her anger out-weighted anything else. She stabbed him and killed him.
I know that the act of forcing someone to marry is a whole separate problem, but I really wanted to chose to read and respond to this particular article because I wanted to see how my classmates would respond. My question for you all is, “Do you think that killing someone because they raped you should be allowed?” “Do you think that Noura should go to prison for murder”?
I think these questions will be really controversial because her husband was doing a terrible thing to her, so it could be argued as self defense. But I think it also could be argued that she could have just told someone and see if it would have been handled in a different way.
