Russia 2018: LGBT members face ‘significant risk’ at World Cup

The article talks about the harsh realities of LGBT discrimination in Russia. There is barely any government interaction against crimes targeting LGBT individuals in Russia. Football players are warned about possible discrimination towards LGBT players and fans. The article reminds me of the lecture on Eastern Europe and the many countries who could not host a peaceful LGBT parade. The lack of government interference is saddening. I believe that these malicious acts will continue until the government changes the system to support the safety of LGBT members. It is okay to not agree with the lifestyles of others but it is never okay to harm or discriminate against anyone because of how they choose to live. Events such as the World cup should be a time for celebration for all nations. The fact that LGBT members have to be on alert while attending the world cup takes away from the festivities.
