Many people know that sexual assault is something that goes on in the military and it is often covered up and “swept under the rug.” Many have heard about many different cases about sexual assault like Vanessa Guillen and the suspicious “suicide” of LaVena Johnson. In 2018, studies showed that women who were assaulted, 59% were assaulted by someone with a higher rank than them, and 24% were assaulted by someone in their chain of command. Vast majority of cases go unreported. 76.1% of victims did not report the crime. This article goes into detail about the stats of sexual assault in the military, how there is hardly any punishment and it also talks about the effects it has on victims.
