Vanessa Guillen was a soldier for the United States Army. She was 20 years old when she went missing on April 22, 2020. Guillen was reportedly missing from Fort Hood Army base, Texas. Ten weeks had passed when the police finally found her dismembered body near Leon River in Texas. After, Vanessa Guillen threatened to report Aaron Robinson for sexual harassment, he repeatedly struck her in the head with a hammer. Robinson was seen loading a large heavy box with wheels onto his car where he was not seen until a couple of hours later. Cecily Aguilar, his girlfriend, was found to be with him at the time that Robinson was near Leon River. After, Aguilar identified Robinson, he was question about the murder of Vanessa Guillen. Later that day, Robinson committed suicide. The story of this young woman’s death struck many people around the country. Not only were they horrified by the violence of this case but also the fact that it happened to a woman in the U.S. Army. The army is viewed as an important part of our nation, an institution that we reply on to protect us. This story was not only shocked the audience but also created distrust in the governement. If this can happen in a federal institution, why couldn’t it happen to any of us in our normal day-to-day lives?
