Help Your Child Become a Reader

Your child is learning to read, which is an exciting time for both you and your child! Most parents have questions about how to help their child become a reader. “Helping Your Child Become a Reader” is a booklet that addresses some common questions and concerns parents have when their child is learning to read such as, “Is it OK for my child to skip over words he does not know?” and “My child does not want to sound out words she doesn’t know. Should I insist that she do so?” The authors offer suggestions and ideas you may find useful as you help your child grow as a reader. It is important to keep in mind that the purpose of reading is to understand what words tell us, but you also want to make sure your child is enjoying what they are reading!
