On Tuesday, February 26th, the ILKIS team presented at a READ ENC Community Literacy Coalition Meeting. Members from the local school board, library staff, childcare providers and teachers, and many other interested community members attended the meeting. The ILKIS team shared a broad research project update with the coalition, highlighting findings from both the baseline year and first year of the ILKIS study. The presentation also emphasized how to encourage increased reading engagement between families and their children.
The READ ENC meeting also featured presentations regarding summer learning, school attendance, and other initiatives to improve kindergarten readiness. Dr. Marianna Walker and Dr. Sheresa Blanchard, also from ECU, presented about creating book nooks throughout the community and training childcare providers in early literacy, respectively.
