As part of East Carolina University’s Department of Interdisciplinary Professions in the College of Education, the McClammy Counseling and Research Laboratory is an on-campus clinical training facility that is staffed by graduate student counselors from ECU’s Counselor Education program. The facility consists of a waiting room, a room for individual or group sessions, and conference rooms for group sessions and other purposes.
Our Mission
The mission of the McClammy Counseling and Research Laboratory is to serve the East Carolina University community by providing individual counseling, consultation, group counseling, and outreach focused on connecting student clients to campus and community resources.
Our priorities are to provide supervised clinical training experience to graduate students in ECU’s Counselor Education program and to conduct research on the impact of services designed to enhance students’ satisfaction with the college experience, such as promoting retention, career development, connecting students with campus and community resources, and other factors.

After completing the form or contacting us for an appointment, you will be phone called for an interview to determine if our counseling services are the right fit and to place you with an appropriate counselor. As needed, we may refer you to local agencies or other ECU resources. If you choose to use our services, your intake appointment will be scheduled and directions to our location are provided, which are also available below.
All counseling sessions are audio and video recorded. This allows faculty members to monitor sessions and provide your graduate student counselor with supervision, consultation, and suggestions to ensure you receive effective counseling services.
Canceling and Rescheduling Appointments
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please let us know 24 hours in advance. Appointments missed by 15 minutes or more will need to be rescheduled.

The McClammy Counseling and Research Laboratory is located on ECU’s main campus in Ragsdale Hall, room 120. Paid visitor’s parking is available across the street on 420 Harding St.

Services
The McClammy Counseling and Research Laboratory offers free services in:
Individual Counseling
In individual counseling, graduate student counselors work one-on-one with clients in an open, non-judgmental environment to explore their concerns surrounding personal issues, stress, mental health, and other struggles. Clients are helped in setting goals and gaining skills to improve their lives.
Group Counseling
In group counseling, graduate student counselors create an environment that encourages group members, couples, and families to build relationships, share feedback, and inspire personal growth in one another.
On request, we also offer wellness programs and drop-in groups for students, with topics on:
- Coping with stress
- Mindfulness/meditation
- Study skills
- Time management
- Self-care
- Career development
