Family Medicine– Health Communication- Graduate level Internship Spring/Summer 2016
We are looking for someone to work on an interdisciplinary research team that will be examining health education and communication to a rural population in eastern North Carolina. We will expect the student to assist with the development of the project, which may include: literature reviews, working with the project team on research plans and approaches, working in rural areas to identify appropriate populations and determining how to gain access to these populations, managing and performing qualitative and quantitative research both onsite and by other appropriate means in rural areas, and analyzing research data to generate reports, articles, and presentations. The student must be willing and able to travel on occasion and may be asked to occasionally participate in evening or weekend events as needed. The student must be a strong communicator, good team members, have good self-management skills, and be willing to take ownership of the tasks assigned. Appropriate training will be provided to all students to assist them in their tasks and if travel is necessary, transportation of reimbursement for transportation will be provided.

American Heart Association Heart Walk/Heart Gala Intern
The American Heart Association works every minute of every day to spread lifesaving knowledge and fund groundbreaking research for heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association is looking for a Special Event Intern in Greenville, NC. Eastern North Carolina has three major events each year. Down East Heart Ball, Down East/Greenville Heart Walk, and the Twin Counties/Rocky Mount Heart Walk.
The American Heart Association will offer unpaid internships for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines including: fundraising/sales, database management, event planning, and communications.
Internship Opportunities
Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

Responsibilities may include:
• Event planning and logistics.
• Administrative duties
• Assistance in contacting businesses for participation in events and donations.
• Assistance with developing event materials.
• Event communications (i.e. newsletters, emails)
• Volunteer Management
• Database management assistance
• Office support
Qualifications:
• Creativity
• Strong phone skills
• Strong computer skills
• Office administrative skills
• Ability to accurately enter important data
• Strong time management skills
• Excellent organizational and listening skills
• Excellent oral, written and electronic communication
• Excellent attention to detail
• Marketing or sales background is a plus
• Desire to work in a fast paced environment
Intern should have minimum of 8+ hours available weekly. Internships are by semester and are offered year round. Intern is expected to work events unless class schedules prohibit. Information for class credit is available.
