What is everyone’s favorite topic of discussion? Ourselves!
We learn from talking about our experiences and sharing our perspectives with others. Creating experience books about a student’s likes and dislikes is a perfect example of that! These books provide high-interest topics and opportunities for communication and socialization. Check out the following book idea based on the preferences of a learner named Sally.
Materials Used:
- White foam board
- Individually preferred objects for like/dislike preferences
- Printed out sentences about the preferences
- Glue or glue gun to attach objects to each foam board page
- Scissors or box cutter to cut foam board pieces to appropriate book size
- Metal rings to connect book pages
Every learner’s book will look different, depending on their preferences. How do you find out their likes and dislikes? Collaborate with the family and school team to get to know those details about the learner. It’s so beneficial for the student to be able to interact with books that are so relevant to their life.
