Experience Books: Summer Senses

With summertime upon us, we can enjoy so many wonderful experiences that occur during the season. I love the sound of lawnmowers and the smell of freshly cut lawns. I love the feel of the dirt as I plant flowers except, of course when meeting up with fire ants that have invaded the flower pots. I really love the smell and taste of burgers on a charcoal grill. I love to see all the beautiful trees, flowers, lakes, rivers, and oceans that we get to visit and experience during the summer. We all like to reminisce about times like these and share experiences with others in conversation.

How are individuals with DeafBlindness able to reminisce and have a conversation about their summer experiences? Are we creating opportunities for these individuals to share their love of summer activities?  Does everyone have the same experience? Of course not!  Every person has different perspectives on their involvement in activities. So how do we guide them to reminisce and share their experiences with others? Experience books can be the answer! Individuals with dual sensory loss can use books to relive their activities and share with others as they go through each page of the individualized book.
