Using the Communication Matrix to Identify Unique Communication Needs

The time has almost arrived! Summer is closing out and the school year is about to begin. A new school year obviously means new students and new challenges of how to meet the needs of each student. As you get to know them, it is vitally important to read the complete IEP, including goals/objectives and progress on those goals, medical history (including vision and hearing), and assessment history. It is also essential to know the communication needs and preferences of the student. One great way to learn about that is by completing a Communication Matrix based on the individual student.
