Pirates on Water upcoming events: October 20 & October 23

Pirates on Water, the student organization affiliated with the WRC, is hosting two events next week, on Wednesday October 20, and Saturday, October 23. Details and links to RSVP below. We hope you can join!

Wednesday, October 20, 4:30-6 pm: General Meeting and WaterCorps Meet and Greet 

Where: Flanagan Courtyard (enter through first/bottom floor of the building)

Fall themed snacks and drinks will be provided!

Schedule:

4:30 – 5 pm: Meet and Greet with WaterCorps interns, staff, and project managers. Anyone interested in learning more about WaterCorps is invited to join!

5:00-6 pm: Pirates on Water general meeting: Plan and brainstorm events for the remainder of the semester

5:55/6:00 pm: Walk to the BlackBox Theatre in the Main Student Center for the Sustainability Film screening of From Pittsburgh to Paris.

Saturday, October 23, 1:00-4:00 PM: Pirates on Water Team Building Event!

Come join Pirates on Water for a super fun team building event at the ECU Challenge Course!

Where: CRW North Recreational Complex (3764 US 264 East Greenville, NC 27834)

Important! We only have 10 available spots, so PLEASE RSVP on the Engage Page so we know you are coming. 

Cost: $5 per person (if PoW member); $15 for non-members

The ECU Challenge Course is designed for groups to come together in a positive environment that encourages personal growth and group development.

What do I wear?

· Please dress for the weather. The North Recreation Complex is consistently windy, so it is a safe bet to dress for it to be slightly colder.

· Long (athletic style) pants are referred to protect your legs from bugs, brush, and bumps. However, in hotter weather shorts are completely acceptable.

· Tennis shoes or hiking boots—PLEASE NO DRESS SHOES, FLIP-FOPS OR SANDALS

· No jewelry and empty pockets. We do not want anything getting lost or broken on the course.

· Sun protection: hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

 

What do I bring?

· A bag lunch, snacks, and a water bottle. We will have a water refill station onsite and access to an ice machine.

· Any medication you might need throughout the day (inhalers, EpiPens and insulin)

· Please bring Bug-spray and sunscreen

· Camera – if you would like to document the events of the day

· Please do not bring anything you do not really need or cannot afford to lose!

Program Expectations

· We adhere to the Challenge by Choice facilitation model

· SAFETY FIRST—Please pay attention and adhere to spotting, lifting, terms, and climbing instructions. Also please make your facilitator aware of current pertinent medical conditions and medication being taken. Watch out for your team members. If you do not understand the instruction, we encourage you to ask questions!

· No alcohol, non-prescription drugs, or tobacco should be used prior to or while on the ECU Challenge Course.

 

Course Location and Parking

The challenge course is located at the CRW North Recreation Complex. The North Recreational Complex is located on Highway 264 East (10 minutes from main campus). Parking is provided adjacent to the field house and handicap parking is located near the Boathouse. Physical address: North Recreational Complex3764 US 264 East Greenville, NC 27834

Below are our current COVID procedures so that you are informed and can make the best decision for your group.

  1. Team training activities will include standing next to people, brief hand holding, spotting each other, walking on cables and boards and handling things that others have touched. We do our best to limit the time that groups are in close contact but due to the nature of our course we cannot eliminate all human contact.
  2. Our facilitators are vaccinated and do not attend work if they have any type of COVID exposure.
  3. Masks are not required during outdoor programming. However, we have masks and hand sanitizer available and ask the group leaders to set the masking rules for their groups.
  4. Masks are required if your group is using any of ECU’s indoor Facilities.
