Town Creek Project: ECU Engineering Students Plant Trees To Mitigate Pollution

Dr. Mike O’Driscoll, associate professor in the Department of Coastal Studies and the associate director of the Water Resources Center discusses the ongoing pollution coming into the Town Creek as a result of the remains of a 1980s gasoline leak that found its way into the city’s groundwater systems.

ECU engineering students Alexander Goble, James Riddle, Adam Till, and Noah Weaver addressed the pollution problem at the Town Creek as part of their senior capstone project. Their work resulted in the planting of 35 willow trees on the embankment near the creek in an effort to mitigate the pollution.
