Cockpit Boats (or Head Boats) are modern boats built for the charter industry all along the coast. These boats can be up to 65ft in length, similar to trawlers, but are much faster, more luxurious, and also not built as ruggedly. Unlike most modern boats, cockpit head boats are sometimes still constructed out of wood. The reason that wood is sometimes chosen for this vessel is that it is quite cheap and also gives the appearance of luxury. Since cockpit head boats are constructed for charters, they have to follow very stringent safety requirements which is how these vessels can be identified from the average yacht (Alford 2004:26-27).
