Snapper

Snapper (Alford 1990:4)

Snappers are ‘v-bottom’ vessels that are very similar to sailing skiffs, only sometimes longer and with rounded sterns like sharpies. These vessels are unique, however, because they were powered by a small, single-cylinder gas-powered engine. Although seemingly a small improvement, these vessels freed people of the Carolinas of having to rely on the wind for power. However, these vessels were short-lived as larger engines became more common and a new vessel type was introduced (Alford 1990:12-14)
