The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) a multi-million dollar contract in 2016 to establish training and certificate programs for mosquito surveillance and control that have both online and onsite components. The onsite portion is the Train the Trainer workshop that will be held at ten regional training hubs located across the U.S. The second onsite Train the Trainer Workshop Program will be conducted in North Carolina (NC) on October 9-10, 2017 in Carolina Beach, NC, with Dr. Stephanie Richards serving as the lead coordinator and one of the master trainers certified by AMCA. ECU Environmental Health personnel, Avian White, will also serve as an instructor.
The workshop is for health directors, environmental health supervisors, and others involved in training vector control personnel. This training is expected to assist counties in responding quickly and efficiently to mosquito-borne crises, and to develop an understanding of the basics of mosquito suppression before they occur. There are currently about 52 participants enrolled, most of whom are from NC and South Carolina, some from other states (e.g. Michigan, California, Florida, Maryland) and one from Africa.
More information about the training program can be found in the AMCA website.
