Dr. Charles Humphrey and Dr. Guy Iverson were awarded $15,000 from the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory to study onsite wastewater nutrient contributions to the Falls Lake Watershed. Both of them serve as co-Principal Investigators on the research project, and Dr. Michael O’Driscoll (ECU Coastal Studies) serve as the Principal Investigator. Falls Lake is a critical water supply resource for Raleigh, but has been suffering from eutrophication since its initial impoundment. The project will help quantify the influence septic systems have on nutrient contributions to tributaries of Falls Lake, which should help improve watershed modeling efforts in the future.
