Dr. Guy Iverson Featured on ECU News Regarding Wastewater Testing for Coronavirus

Dr. Guy Iverson, ECU Environmental Health (EH) faculty, was featured in the ECU News today for being part of an ECU team that will test wastewater from residence halls this semester to detect SARS-CoV-2 as early as possible to reduce transmission and avoid outbreaks where students live. This approach is considered a game changer because of the opportunity to identify and isolate before clusters appear. Several ECU departments are working together to collect, process and analyze wastewater samples tri-weekly from residence halls.

Dr. Charles Humphrey and Ms. Avian White, both ECU EH faculty, are also part of this team. Collected samples will be delivered to the ECU Environmental Health Sciences lab where the 3 EH faculty and their students work to process the samples for further analyses.
