Three Environmental Health faculty members were notified this week that they were selected as recipients of Teaching Grant Awards for the academic year 2021-2022 through the ECU Faculty Senate.

Dr. Jo Anne Balanay will receive a teaching grant award for her proposal titled, “Development of a Demonstration Video Library on Workplace Hazard Sampling and Monitoring for Multilevel Industrial Hygiene Laboratory Courses”. The purpose of her project is to create a collection of high-quality laboratory demonstration videos on how to conduct sampling and monitoring of workplace health hazards, which will be accessible to students enrolled in industrial hygiene (IH) laboratory courses.

Dr. Charles Humphrey and Dr. Guy Iverson will receive a teaching grant award for their proposal titled, “Campus as a Living Laboratory for Green Stormwater Education”. The goal of this project is to develop and integrate active learning exercises into water-focused courses by engaging students with existing green stormwater infrastructure on campus. The expected student learning outcomes include a deeper understanding of course material and improved data collection and analysis capabilities, better preparation for careers through hands-on training, and development of soft skills through collaboration with peers and university personnel, and creation of education videos. The project is led by Dr. Natasha Bell (Dept. of Engineering) and also includes Dr. Randall Etheridge (Dept. of Engineering).
