Ask Miss Liza: Easter Egg Hunt

Dear Miss Liza,

Our organization is planning the annual Easter Egg Hunt for the kids at the County Park this weekend. It should be exciting! Our organization is founded on service. Are you a member of an organization or club? Do you have any tips for the Easter Egg Hunt?

Shaun

Ask Miss LizaDear Shaun,

Thank you and your organization for your service! “Friendship is Essential to the Soul”! Yes, I have a few suggestions with regards to Egg Safety for Easter! Here’s what we know: Each year there are reports of illness caused by eggs, particularly from raw or lightly cooked eggs. You remember Salmonella!!!

  • Make sure the shells are intact before purchasing.
  • Eggs should be refrigerated at 40°F or colder.
  • Wash your hands before and after handling uncooked shell eggs.
  • Once the cooked eggs are decorated, return them to the refrigerator within two hours.
  • Use plastic eggs for your Easter egg hunt instead of real ones.
  • Don’t hide them where they can come in contact with animals, birds or lawn chemicals.
  • Do not hide eggs with cracked shells, because bacteria could contaminate the inside.

And yes Shaun, I am a proud member of an organization! We endeavor to promote, and protect the public health… Environmental Health! Bye!
