Dr. Humphrey Accepts ‘Drinking Watershed Protection Award’ for ECU EHS Program

The ECU Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Program was given the ‘Drinking Watershed Protection Award’ by the City of Raleigh during the 2020-2022 Raleigh Environmental Awards ceremony last night. EH Professor, Dr. Charles Humphrey, accepted the award for the EHS Program. This award was given for the environmental health efforts related to the second Lick Creek Watershed Project completed in 2021, as led by Dr. Humphrey. Dr. Guy Iverson (EH Assistant Professor) and Jarrod Underwood (MS Environmental Health alumnus) worked on this important project that aimed to improve water quality in the Lick Creek watershed (Durham County) by reducing the transport of nutrients, bacteria, and sediment to the creek. This project also served as Mr. Underwood’s MS Environmental Health thesis.

This award was announced last year, with the ECU EHS program among the 2021 Raleigh Environmental Award Winners. The awarding was postponed to this year’s ceremony due to COVID-19 concerns.
