Dr. Charles Humphrey and ECU environmental health students in his undergraduate and graduate wastewater/water classes completed poster presentations at the Soil Science Society of North Carolina meeting held in Raleigh, NC on April 17-18, 2023.
Dr. Humphrey presented a poster titled, “Assessment of Nitrogen and Fecal Bacteria Concentrations in 18 Septic Systems and Water Supply Wells in the Coastal Plain of North Carolina” and two oral presentations titled, “Treatment of Nitrogen by a Dry Detention Basin with Wetland Characteristics” and “Field Studies of Fecal Indicator Bacteria Treatment by Onsite Wastewater Systems in North Carolina”.

- Noah Roberson, BS Environmental Health student – “Water Quality Assessment of Jacks Creek, an Urbanized Watershed in Coastal North Carolina”
- Kolachi Oparanozie, MS Environmental Health student – “Evaluation of E. coli Concentrations in Groundwater Beneath Onsite Wastewater Systems in Eastern North Carolina”
- Madison Maness, Environmental Health Foundations Certificate student – “Evaluation of the Nitrogen Treatment Efficiencies of 10 Septic Systems in Eastern North Carolina“
Congratulations to Lucas Mebane for winning 3rd place in the student poster competition. Lucas received a $200 check as his award. The students did a great job representing ECU and the Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) Program!
