Dr. Guy Iverson, ECU Environmental Health (EH) faculty, was featured this week in the CBS-19 Raleigh news for his work at ECU on the testing of wastewater from residence halls for SARS-CoV-2 this semester to avoid COVID-19 outbreaks. Dr. Iverson explained that students who are asymptomatic may unknowingly spread the virus to their classmates, dorm mates and instructors, and that these wastewater tests will be able to identify COVID-19 cases and eventually isolate them. Recent findings show that this approach is working because virus copies in wastewater dropped after the isolation of identified cases.
