The North Carolina Mosquito and Vector Control Association (NCMVCA) hosted their annual conference from November 9-10, 2022 at the Pitt County Agricultural Extension Center (403 Government Circle, Greenville, NC). The conference had 72 attendees representing 19 counties across NC and also some from other states (VA, FL, GA, and UT). NC counties represented were Beaufort, Brunswick, Craven, Dare, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Jackson, Mecklenburg, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Transylvania, Tyrrell, Wake and Wilson. Attendees included students and professors from universities, county Environmental/Public, city Public Works, and private industry. Several ECU graduate students (i.e., MS Environmental Health [MSEH], Doctor of Public Health [DrPH]) attended the workshop on Day 2 of the conference.
Continuing education units (CEUs) were offered for REHS and Pesticide Applicator licensing. This meeting is always a great opportunity for mosquito programs to make connections across the state and add to their knowledge and training on mosquito borne disease and mosquito control methods.
Dr. Stephanie Richards gave a presentation titled “Insecticide Resistance in North Carolina Mosquitoes”, with Ms. Avian White as co-author. Dr. Richards was involved in the organization of this conference and was re-elected as the treasurer of NCMVCA. Ms. White was elected Vice President of the NCMVCA for 2023.
