Transgender Women in Sports

Transgender men and women in sports is a highly debated topic. According to the NCAA Guidelines without hormone treatments they cannot play on female teams. Even with hormone treatments, they must continue to play on male teams until they complete a year of hormone treatments. So why is this?

Assuming that men are inherently advantaged because of their testosterone, it seems that transgender men acknowledge this and “knowingly disadvantage” themselves by playing on men’s teams. Transwomen are seen to have an advantage because of their testosterone levels so, in turn, there are stricter restrictions. Personally, I see no issue when these athletes playing. They deserve recognition and the ability to play on teams that match their gender identity.
