The Department of Physical Therapy Human Movement Analysis Laboratories (HMAL) are located within the Health Sciences Building at East Carolina University. Researchers in these labs are dedicated to minimizing the impact, across the lifespan, of movement-related limitations and disorders on health outcomes and participation through identification of underlying mechanisms and effective rehabilitation strategies.
Our researchers’ professional interest and expertise span the following areas:
- locomotion biomechanics and energetics
- balance and postural control
- computer modeling and simulation
- bone and joint health
- motor control
- neurodevelopment
- neuroscience
The HMAL provides specialized laboratories and scientific equipment to support the diverse research lines of our primary investigators and the mentoring of research doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students.
