Book of the Month

We hope you are able to enjoy “The Giant Jumperee” by Julia Donaldson and Helen Oxenbury with your child this month!

In this story, Rabbit comes home to find a loud, scary voice coming from his burrow. Several of his friends try to help him figure out who the Giant Jumperee in his home is, but they’re scared too. Keep reading to find out who the Giant Jumperee is!

For your first time reading this book, sit in a comfortable place with your child and simply enjoy the story. Next time, try some of the activities listed below.

Starting Up: Read the title aloud and explain that “Jumperee” is a made-up word and name. Talk about the animals on the cover. What kind are they? Who is biggest? What color is the cat?

Reading the Story: Each time an animal approaches the burrow, ask your child to guess if they will go inside or not. When Mama Frog counts, have your child count to three with her.

After the Story: Ask your child questions about the story. Why were the animals afraid when they approached the burrow? Has something every made you afraid? Who came out of the burrow at the end of the story?
