Book of the Month!

Did your child receive “Last Stop on Market Street” by Matt del la Peña this month?

In this story, a boy and his grandma ride the bus across town every Sunday after church.  The boy wonders why they do not have a car like his friend Colby or and iPod like his friend at school.  For each question, his grandma replies with a positive answer, helping him see the excitement and fun in their routine and life!

The first time you read this story, sit somewhere comfortable and enjoy it with your child. The next time you read it, try some of the ideas below or check out the suggestions on the back flap of your Imagination Library book!

Starting Up: Read the title and talk about riding a bus. Has your child been on one before?

Reading the Story: On the last pages, talk about what CJ is doing and how it helps others. Have you and your child done something to help someone else recently?

After the Story: Ask your child questions about the story. Did CJ want to go on a bus ride? In the end, is he glad he went? How do you feel when you help people?
