Book of the Month!

Did your child receive “Excellent Ed” by Stacy McAnulty from Imagination Library this month?

In this story, everyone in the family is excellent at something – except Ed. Ed starts to worry. What if he is not excellent enough to be a part of the family? This funny tale will reassure kids that everyone is excellent at something and that their family loves them just the way they are!

After enjoying the book the first time you read it, try some of these suggestions for the next time. Don’t forget there are more suggestions in the back of your book!

Starting Up:  Talk about the word excellent. What things does your child think are excellent?

Reading the Story: When Ed is planning to break, lose, or forget things to impress his family, ask if that will make his family happy or sad. What about his greetings, kisses, or foot warming?

After the Story: Watchdogs in the neighborhood or your own dog. See if they behave the way Ed does in the book. What do those dogs enjoy doing with their families?
