Infections from Rodents to Pets to Humans

Dr. Stephanie Richards posted a Terminix blog on the potential harm that rodents can make on pets and, eventually, on humans.  Rodents may carry a variety of pathogens that causes diseases that can impact pet and public health. Examples of these diseases are toxoplasmosis and roundworm infections.  In this blog, Dr. Richards discussed how dogs and cats can be affected by Toxoplasma gondii, a protozoan parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, and how humans can become infected with this protozoa (e.g., cleaning litter boxes of infected cats).  She also described how a pet can get infected with roundworms by eating an infected animal (e.g., rodents, birds), and explained that roundworms can be passed to humans.
