Bittersweet (and Wet) Last Day of Diving

Our last day of diving was to finish just a few things on both sites. It was pouring rain the entire morning, though later bright sunshine emerged. The group was split into two; some people went to the cannon site and the rest went to the brick site.

On the brick site, our seven divers were split into two groups. The first, Jeremy, Lauren, and Elise, went down to measure the length, width, and thickness of bricks. They measured a total of thirty bricks – groups of five from six units. These units were in the middle of the brick distribution which we can now see on the completed site plan.

The second group, Melissa, Mitch, Sydney, and me, dove to recover our baseline and attached polypro line. We had a lineup in order to facilitate a quick recovery of the baseline. Melissa cut the zip ties, Sydney collected them, Mitch wound up the tape, and I collected the polypro line. We swam in that general order underwater, to keep people from getting too tangled in the line. It is important to recover anything used on site and to clean up any evidence of our intrusion for ethical reasons. However, removing the baseline also meant that the project is approaching its end, which is bittersweet.
