The United States Golf Association seeks a Communications Intern to provide media relations and communications support for USGA championships both on-site and from the home office. Office duties include supervision of production of Player Guides for the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open; assistance with the collection and posting of championship qualifying results to USGA Web sites; assistance with the development of the championship player biographical database, assistance with research, writing, fact checking and proofing of content for USGA communications; and assistance with on-site posting of content on www.usga.org and other USGA web sites. Location: New Jersey
Duties Include:
- Communications duties at selected USGA Championships to include writing, distribution and posting of daily stories (game and sidebar); results distribution; and media assistance and serve (to include player and officials interviews and broadcast television liaison among other duties).
- Support championship communications from home office, including story editing and research, Web site posting, and results distribution.
- Support development of Player Guides for U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, including collection of data from players via telephone, fax and email; as well as preperation and formatting of online player biographical data for media and USGA website use.
- Proofreading, editing, writing, posting of content for USGA Web sites and press releases, with a particular emphasis on fact checking.
- Collect and collate biographical data for entry into championship player biographical database.
Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities:
Requires general communications and media relations skills, as well as familiarity with special events operations. A journalism background or writing experience is a must, as are up-to-date computer skills and the ability to effectively communicate on the phone and via email. Familarity with USGA history and practices desirable.
