Internship with ECU’s Active Moms Research  

Active Moms is a part of the Human Performance Lab and consists of several research studies aimed at improving maternal and infant health through physical activity. Active Moms is seeking an intern to assist with creating and executing a communication and social media strategy.  This role will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and gaining visibility for students, participants, faculty, staff, and alumni across Pirate Nation within ECU and the greater community.  

Start Date: Summer 2024, Fall 2024  

Work Schedule: The intern will commit to working 10 hours per week in a hybrid work schedule created around the students’ schedules (partly in person in the FITT building/ Minges/Ward/ECHI and partly remote)  

Communication and Creative Content Responsibilities will include:  

  • Responsible for managing and executing the social media strategy across various platforms.  (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube)
  • Create daily posts, photos, videos, etc. to highlight the research, events, staff, and participants 
  • Interview and compose stories about participants,  students, and staff
  • Create marketing material and infographics  
  • Partner with outside sources to obtain incentives and other promotional items for participants
  • Ensure all materials are approved by Dr. May prior to posting

Preferred Majors, Experience/GPA:  

The candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be familiar with key social media platforms.  Candidates will need a strong work ethic, ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and can accept feedback and revision of content. Confidentiality, professionalism, and trustworthiness are imperative as some information may be sensitive in nature. Candidates will have experience in writing, marketing, social media, and digital content production.  The candidate will be proficient in taking and editing photographs and videos for social media and newsletters.  
 

Knowledge of or interest in health, wellness, and fitness preferred.  Applicant must be a student currently enrolled at ECU, possess and maintains a minimum of 2.5 GPA, and be in good disciplinary and academic standing with ECU.
