Project and Communications Internship
Summer 2011
POSITION DESCRIPTION
ICP is seeking graduate, undergraduate students and graduates interested in community and national service, public policy, communications, non-profit management and/or international affairs for a Summer 2011 Project and Communications Internship.
The intern’s primary responsibility will be to work with the ICP team on a number of projects and communications activities.
Each intern is assigned specific projects based on interest and skills. Some projects and communication needs for Summer 2011 include:
1. IANYS: Interns will work with the Program Associate on building the International Association for National Youth Service (IANYS) global network. Tasks may include:
• Assisting with follow-up to the 9th Global Conference and plans for future meetings
• Outreach and communications: responding to inquiries from past participants and other interested individuals, updating the website and building and facilitating the IANYS interactive online community site
2. Communications: Interns will work with the Program Associate, Service Fellows, and Office Manager to collect and distribute information through mediums such as forums, press releases, publications, website, blog, newsletter, and other social media. Tasks may include:
• Writing newsletter content and blog posts
• Drafting press releases, email campaigns and other publication materials
• Updating ICP’s website and social media with current news and resources on youth service
• Conducting online research and updating ICP’s Online Resource Centers focused on youth civic engagement and the environment, South Asia and youth civic participation programs and policies around the world
In addition to these projects, the Projects and Communications Intern may be called upon to assist in other projects as the need arises. Interns may also be called on to assist the Office Manager with occasional tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS
An ideal candidate will:
• have excellent analytical and English writing skills – this position requires a very high degree of writing competence
• have previous research experience, preferably in the social sciences field
• be creative, organized, detail-oriented and responsible
• be flexible and comfortable multi-tasking, as well as working independently and as part of a team
• be willing to commit a minimum 20 hours per week (days and times are flexible); preference given to applicants available full-time
• have knowledge of one or more foreign language (preferred)
• have previous knowledge of national and community service projects in the United States and/or abroad (preferred)
• have experience in journalism, social media, web-publishing, and/or desktop publishing (preferred)
Start Date: May/June 2011
End Date: August/September 2011 (with possible renewal for Fall 2011)
BENEFITS
ICP is a small organization and interns are considered to be full members of the team. An internship at ICP is a great opportunity to acquire true professional experience for those interested in a career in non-profit management, public policy and international development. We are in a great Metro-friendly location–one block from DuPont Circle. We offer a $50 per week stipend for full-time interns, but please be advised that this internship is otherwise unpaid.
