Here’s your chance to try on the retail suit. And see how it fits.
If you’re a college junior or senior seeking work experience in the real world, the Crate and Barrel store internship program is a fun way to try out a career in retail. Throughout your internship, you’ll be immersed in the hands-on basics of merchandising. Depending on your assigned location, you’ll gain leadership and teamwork experience in sales, store design, inventory management, distribution or corporate office life.
Locations:
Washington DC; Annapolis, MD; Richmond, VA; Durham, NC; King of Prussia, PA; MacLean, VA; Arlington, VA; Charlotte, NC.
And your internship can be more than a great paid opportunity and a fabulous store discount. Because we like to promote from within, internships have historically been a great “in” to a Crate and Barrel career.
So what’s in store for you?
Retail Sales
Our valued customers are always at the heart of Crate and Barrel. So an important part of your internship will involve working closely with the management teams at our Housewares or Furniture stores to learn creative sales techniques and various aspects of customer service. Working with our department managers, you’ll learn how to enhance sales with product knowledge and in-store merchandising. You’ll also be exposed to the vital roles advertising and direct marketing play in our business.
Store Design
If you’ve shopped our stores, you know the inspiring Crate and Barrel lifestyle “look.” Clean, contemporary and light-filled, our stores are stocked with distinctive, well-designed merchandise. We work hard to create this look, and part of your internship will focus on the basics of Crate and Barrel design. You’ll be exposed to beginning design theory by assisting the store designer in creating and maintaining store displays, and you’ll become acquainted with store signage, lighting and floor plans, and Marimekko® fabric changes.
Inventory Management
Discover how products make it from the warehouse to our shelves in this behind-the-scenes experience. You’ll learn the basics of inventory management, including receiving merchandise, stockroom storage and organization, and item transfers. There will be special emphasis on accurate accounting of store inventory and inventory control systems.
Distribution and Corporate Offices
Depending on the time of year, you may be introduced to associates from one of our Distribution Centers or Corporate Office. Managed with state-of-the-art technology, our Distribution Centers are hubs for an amazingly streamlined system of inventory control. Our Corporate Office, located in Northbrook, Illinois, is the central support system for our entire company. Our many departments include Merchandising, Finance, Graphics, Store Operations, Logistics and Human Resources.
We can hardly wait to meet you.
If you’re a motivated, enthusiastic, hard-working individual interested in a career in retail, we’re interested in meeting you.
