Communications & Membership Team
The Communications and Membership arm of the Alumni Association performs a number of functions to support our mission including production of EC Alumni magazine, PirateAlumni.com, A Pirate’s Life for Me! weekly radio show, ECUpdate monthly e-newsletter, an annual report, the Association’s presence on social media sites, and marketing vehicles for our alumni programs/events.
Under the guidance of the Director of Alumni Communications and Membership, these opportunities will increase your knowledge of marketing and communication strategies in a member-focused organization. Currently we are looking for the following interns:
Social Media Intern
Our social media intern will have the opportunity to learn how a member-focused organization can utilize this technology to communicate with constituents. We’re looking for someone who can boost the Alumni Association’s presence on social networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter) by increasing the number of people connected to the Alumni Association on social networks, add alumni events, photos, and videos to Facebook and LinkedIn, research news related to the University and alumni that can be shared through social networks, and find new ways to utilize social media that are currently not being used by the Alumni Association.
Photo Intern(s)
Photo interns attend alumni events to capture photos for alumni publications and the website photo gallery. Must shoot with a DSLR camera and provide your own equipment. Must have knowledge of Adobe Photoshop to edit photos (Interns have access to Photoshop at the Alumni Center should they not own their own copy.)
Video Intern(s)
Video interns attend alumni events to shoot video that can be used to create 60 to 90 second packages that are posted on Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube. Must be proficient with editing video in Final Cut Pro with little guidance.
Writing Intern
Under the guidance of the Assistant Director for Alumni Communications, the writing intern will have the opportunity to create copy for the Alumni Association’s many publications including EC Alumni magazine, ECUpdate e-newsletter, annual report, award and scholarship recipient bios and press releases, and questions for our weekly radio show A Pirate’s Life for Me!.
These are UNPAID internships…the experience is PRICELESS! Interns should be able to commit 10-12 hours weekly and work a consistent schedule.

Programs Team
The Alumni Programs arm of the Alumni Association performs numerous functions to support the organization’s mission including planning fundraising events to raise money for ECU student scholarships, campus activities such as reunions to serve alumni groups, regional events to engage alumni across the Pirate Nation, and student events to build relationships and prepare future Pirate Alumni for tomorrow.
Under the guidance of 3 event planning professionals, internships with the Programs Team will provide an opportunity to increase your knowledge of planning and executing successful events. Potential opportunities include:

- Attend regional alumni events like Freshmen Sendoffs and Alumni Networking events
- Network with ECU alumni and friends
- Create marketing plans and budgets for various events
- Research venues and event space for various Alumni Association programs in targeted regions of the US
- Research new event ideas for alumni and student programming
- Solicit businesses for donations for the Pirate’s Bounty Scholarship Auction
- Serve on the committee that plans the annual ECU Alumni Scholarship Classic golf tournament
- Serve on a reunion committee that helps plan the 50th Class Reunion or Black Alumni Reunion
The Director of Alumni Programs will work with potential interns to match their interests with the needs of the Alumni Association to determine a set of goals.
