Description: The Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) is a local tourism development authority chartered by state and local government in cooperation with the private sector to attract and serve visitors to the City and County of Durham by reinvesting a portion of the visitor-paid “room occupancy and tourism development tax” in promotion and marketing to fuel the local business climate and expand the tax base.As an accredited Destination Management Organization (DMO), DCVB is committed to offering opportunities by providing unpaid internships to foster growth and learning in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Duties: DCVB’s 2011 summer internship opportunities are designed to gain exposure in multiple departments by assisting with a variety of short-term projects such as (but not limited to):
•Researching and organizing activities by age group for publications and web updates
•Developing itineraries for visitors
•Assisting in development of tools for mobile apps (SCVNGR Treks)
•Providing photography for outdoor art, cataloguing, and inventorying photos
•Auditing and updating visitor feature inventory
•Assisting in data entry projects and lead generation for group sales
•Greeting visitors and providing directions and community information
•Researching and organizing background information for press releasesThis internship is an unpaid opportunity to assist in activities that will promote the efforts of DCVB while providing hands-on experience. Additional overview training will be offered in conjunction with the internship to provide insight to other aspects of operations such as the financial management of a DMO, performance metrics, marketing, and branding. DCVB’s operating hours are between 8am-5pm M-F with the Visitor Information Center open on Saturdays between 10-2. The number of hours per week and scheduling is flexible within these parameters.
