Development Intern
Job Description
Direct Supervisor: Development Coordinator
Basic Function: Research and apply for grants; assist in planning special events; coordinate media interaction; arrange networking meetings and identify potential donors

Specific Duties:
- Special Events
- Assist Development Coordinator with organizing fundraisers, promotional events, and other programs
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit and organize volunteers for special events
- Evaluate events after completion for success and areas for improvement
- Coordination of Media
- Assist with printed media, such as brochures, newsletters, mass mailings and press releases
- Update and maintain website
- Maintain social media sites
- Keep digital records of all published media
- Networking
- Attend meetings with Development Coordinator to make contacts and meet potential donors and partners
- Contact potential donors to build relationships and partnerships
- Meet with individuals to share Habitat’s mission and gauge interest
- Foster relationships by writing thank you notes and other correspondence
- Grant Research
- Find and filter appropriate grants
- Organize eligible grants
- Gather necessary information and apply for grants when appropriate
- Communicate and network with advisors from various grant foundations
Qualifications
- Computer proficiency – able to type at least 30wpm, able to operate a computer’s basic programs
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Publisher)
- Detail oriented, organized
- Self-starter, able to self-teach
- Good written and oral communication skills; comfortable speaking with strangers
- Able to speak publicly and in front of large groups
Hours: 16-20 hours per week
Training: On-the-job training will be completed during the 14-day probationary period. Training will be task-specific and will also cover the mission and goals of the organization.
Evaluation: At the end of the 14-day probation period, the Development Coordinator will review the efficiency and effectiveness of the intern. If satisfactory, the intern will continue in his/her duties; otherwise, reassignment will be considered.
