AMAZON CONSERVATION TEAM HEADQUARTERS JOB DESCRIPTION Position title: Communications/General Office Intern Status: Volunteer with modest stipend Location: Arlington, VA POSITION SUMMARY Assist ACT staff and communications consultant with the organization’s external communications and general office tasks as assigned.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of the latest communications trends, and a desire to learn how to put them to use advancing knowledge and understanding of ACT’s mission and programs. We seek a highly proactive go-getter who will thrive in a small office environment and feel comfortable collaborating intensively with passionate teammates. This is an entry level internship designed for someone eager to develop their knowledge and skills.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist with the upkeep of HQ’s website through basic content updates • Assist in updating ACT’s internet media vehicles including blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed • Maintain and update ACT’s media lists • Proactively seek media opportunities in relevant outlets based on current events and share with communications consultant to determine strategy for placement • Provide general office support via phone, snail/email mailings, special events, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS • Currently working toward or recently completed undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, or English • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Experience with media content creation, both web-based and non-web • Familiarity with web development applications, website content management systems and/or HTML • Understanding and past utilization of the leading social networking platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and blogs PLUSES • Experience with newswire services • Facility with Google Apps • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese The intern will be expected to follow ACT Headquarters policies and procedures as detailed in the ACT Employee Handbook.
