The Roanoke Times is an award-winning daily newspaper in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia . We pride ourselves on a collegial newsroom that has become a national leader in integrating online and multimedia reporting into our print journalism. The Roanoke Times is looking for interns who have a passion for reporting. As a paid intern for 10 weeks, you will be assigned to one of our reporting teams and will be assigned real stories. You will be assigned an editor and a mentor who will meet with you regularly to help track your progress. This intern position requires a mix of hard news and features. This candidate will cover breaking news and generate story ideas for features and news follows, and work on long-range projects while juggling daily commitments. We work in a team environment with other reporters, editors and photographers.
Requirements:
Experience at a college newspaper or the equivalent is required, as is a demonstrated ability to write clearly and with flair. Previous intern experience is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate orally and in writing in English with the public, any type of newsmaker, colleagues and supervisors. A second language such as Spanish would be a plus. Must be computer literate and be able to type articles, story budget lines, e-mails, and other essential communications in timely manner, including on deadline when needed.
