State of the Union, a political news show on CNN, is offering a paid summer broadcast journalism internship based in Washington, DC.
12-week internship runs from June 4 to August 10, pays minimum wage and college credit is available. Duties: Candy Crowley is Anchor of State of the Union and CNN’s Chief Political Correspondent. Interns will learn how Candy and her team plan and execute shows and packages. Interns will shadow and assist producers working with Crowley. They will also receive assistance from the Team if they would like to work on a story of their own. Intern duties include research, fact-checking, tapes logging, assistance with interviews and participation at press events. Interns should come away with sharper editorial and writing skills, exposure to leading technology and an increased knowledge of the U.S. government and political system. Interns will also be involved in CNN’s media program, “Reliable Sources” with Howard Kurtz.
The following qualifications are preferred: 1) Broadcast Journalism, Media or Communications major or involvement in student media; 2) Strong current events knowledge and interest in news and politics; 3) Knowledge of CNN news platforms (network shows, website) is helpful. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, applicants may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship.
