Fall 20120 – Sales & Marketing

Interns will support managers with a variety of projects including brainstorming promotional opportunities and company premium branded merchandise, sourcing premium concepts, inventory, and other departmental initiatives.

SALES: Students should have related experience or a strong interest in the field; some positions require strong research skills in competitive analysis. Interns will assist the sales team in preparing for all major TV markets.

MARKETING: Students should have related experience or a strong interest in the field; some positions require strong research skills in competitive analysis; some opportunities desire candidates have an interest in market research and analysis. Opportunities range from general marketing practice to strategic initiatives/brand management. Interns will participate in brainstorming promotional opportunities for prospective brands and/or clients.

INTERNATIONAL MARKETING: Our international marketing department supports E!’s International Network. Interns will work with affiliates to update the press and media lists in our database. Interns will also research and update PowerPoint presentations for meetings with potential clients, analyze marketing campaigns and rating reports as well as locate video clips from E! programming that can be used for publicity purpose

 

Fall 2012 – Online/Editorial

 
ONLINE EDITORIAL

 

Interns will provide general support for the staff at eonline.com, mystyle.com, and g4tv.com including writing, website maintenance, minor editing, image scanning, HTML and updating site content. Students will also assist with projects involving research, online chats, updating daily questions submitted to the site, and transcribing interviews with TV actors and producers. Students will learn the processes involved in content creation and development for online and television media.

 

Students should be in pursuit of a related degree, have related experience, or a strong interest in the field (Related fields include: Broadcast Journalism, Print or Online Journalism, English, Communications, TV/Radio/Film, Gaming, etc.); some opportunities desire candidates have prior internship or on-campus experience with news including research, writing, or producing experience. Other opportunities desire previous journalism or blogging experience. Editorial positions are in fields such as: diet/fitness, gaming, and celebrity news/gossip.

 

Students should have experience and interest in online media; an intense familiarity with social media is highly desired.

 

Fall 2012 – Public Relations
PUBLIC RELATIONS

Public Relations interns will work closely with publicists on various projects including drafting press releases for E!, Style and G4 shows. Interns will also assist with press clippings and disseminating them to appropriate departments.

Desired majors include Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Digital/New Media, Journalism

PR Intern Duties/Checklist

Trades/Newspapers
o Picking up morning papers and trade magazines, as well as weekly gossip magazines

Skimming/Scanning
o Monitoring all publications for mention of our networks and their corresponding shows

o Scanning articles and photos to be used in launch reports, The Morning Briefing, and other press distributions

The Morning Briefing
o Separation and saving of individual articles from E!, Style, G4 daily compilation of coverage, The Morning Briefing, to allow the publicists to create launch reports, pitch media, and to satisfy other internal requests

o As expected with the fast-paced world of PR, the intern will be asked to take on a number of challenging tasks throughout the day and to keep all materials and the shared intern space tidy and organized.

Checking Voicemail and E-Mail
o Frequently checking voicemail and e-mail to ensure all tasks are fulfilled (i.e. orders placed, deliveries made, etc.)

Interdepartmental Transport
o Handling and delivery of important documents and other materials

Maintain Archives Shelf
o Keep the archives shelf in good condition by recycling media coverage that is no longer relevant and by making the most recent coverage easily accessible

Mailings
o Helps to facilitate shipments, package materials, as well as deliver materials to their appropriate drop location for various size mailings (bulk or otherwise).

Fall 2012 – Programming
PROGRAMMING

Do you want to help us decide what shows air and when?

Programming interns will assist with the on-air scheduling of one of our networks (E!, Style, or G4). Researching competitive programming, analyzing ratings, and screening network programming and potential movie acquisitions are some of the daily projects handled by interns. Programming internships offer students the opportunity to create their own mock weekly schedule based on the knowledge and experience gained.

A strong interest in TV, movies, music, pop culture, and knowledge of E!, Style, or G4 is preferred. A specific interest in the programming/scheduling field is a plus. However, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn is a must!

For programming internships, please make sure to specify the network you are most interested in.
Our interns are unpaid and therefore must meet the following criteria:

Enrolled in an Associate’s/Bachelor’s/Master’s program at an accredited college or university
Able to provide proof of credit or a letter of support to receive academic credit from your college or university prior to starting assignment
Able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week for at least 12 weeks between the months of September and December.

 

Fall 2012 – Audience Research

AUDIENCE RESEARCH

If you have ever wondered what the Nielsen Ratings mean and how Cable Networks use them, this internship may interest you. E!’s Research Department analyzes and interprets the Nielsen Ratings for the whole company and also holds focus groups in association with other departments.

Our interns are unpaid and therefore must meet the following criteria:

Enrolled in an Associate’s/Bachelor’s/Master’s program at an accredited college or university
Able to provide proof of credit or a letter of support to receive academic credit from your college or university prior to starting assignment
Able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week for at least 12 weeks between the months of September and December.
Candidates will be assessed on the following characteristics: a strong academic performance, community service, leadership experience, and a demonstrated interest in entertainment.

Fall 2012 – Production
PRODUCTION

Interns will work with one of our shows or departments at E! to gain experience in the field of Television Production. Duties vary between departments; however, most interns will be involved with research for show topics as well as logging, transcribing and gathering interview and b-roll tapes. Students will gather footage and work with producers on daily segments. Past Interns have been placed with the following shows:
