Community Relations Internship Fall 2012 – New York Islanders Hockey Club (Uniondale, NY)
Islanders University is an experience unlike any other. As a participant in the Islanders University program, interns learn the inner workings of how to run a successful professional sports organization.
“Interns are the foundation of any successful organization,” New York Islanders Owner Charles Wang said. “We are searching for prospective employees that would like an opportunity in the ever competitive sports industry. As part of Islanders University, interns will experience the thrill of closing a sale, the importance of serving as an ambassador for the team in the community and the excitement of designing some of the most cutting edge merchandise seen around the league.”

An intern should expect to work anywhere from 20-30 hours each week (days and hours can be flexible based on school schedules) and these hours would include working most events/game nights. All intern positions call for general administrative work including, but not limited to: maintaining/organizing files, data entry, copying, filing and faxing. Interns must possess strong organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills. Interns must be proficient in Microsoft Office and internet navigation. Interns also must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, in addition to being able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. A professional attitude will be expected. Community Relations Internship:
The Islanders Community Relations department acts as a liaison between the Islanders and the Long Island community. Interns entering into this department will participate in planning and hosting events throughout Long Island as part of our grassroots marketing campaigns. These events could include appearances from players, the Ice Girls and our mascot, Sparky. Interns will also assist with charitable in-kind donation requests, fulfillment of New York Islanders Kids Club and help the CR department on game nights. This will include Islanders Children’s Foundation fundraising as well as the 50/50 Raffle and Chuck-A-Puck. Interns will also help assist at Islanders Children’s Foundation events including the Islanders Golf Outing and Casino Night

Marketing Services Internship:
The Marketing Services Intern will perform general office duties, which include but are not limited to: assisting with advertising and marketing calendar, program coordination, development of creative promotions, event planning, field projects and office needs. Interns will be assisting with the development and distribution of advertising collateral to sponsors, spectators and staff. Marketing interns will be responsible for updating the advertising clipping portfolio. They can expect to execute marketing pieces through the Internet, print, television and radio. Interns will be assisting in the innovative marketing of the club and will gain experimental learning in the real and exciting world of sports and entertainment.

Customer Service Internship:
The Customer Service department handles all ticketing, ticket sales and building issues pertaining to New York Islanders events. Duties include heavy database management, lead generating, event planning and one-on-one interaction with fans and potential clients in-person as well as via phone and email. Interns will be assisting at Islanders games, including working at the customer service booth, assisting with in-game promotions, Fan Experience specialties (hi-fives, zamboni rides), ticket delivery and marketing material distribution.
