Communications Internship – New York Islanders Hockey Club (Uniondale, NY)
Islanders University is an experience unlike any other. As a participant in the Islanders University program, interns learn the inner workings of how to run a successful professional sports organization.

An intern should expect to work anywhere from 20-30 hours each week (days and hours can be flexible based on school schedules) and these hours would include working most events/game nights. All intern positions call for general administrative work including, but not limited to: maintaining/organizing files, data entry, copying, filing and faxing. Interns must possess strong organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills. Interns must be proficient in Microsoft Office and internet navigation. Interns also must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, in addition to being able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. A professional attitude will be expected. Communications Internship – Season
General office, game-night and event duties include, but are not limited to: filing traditional & non-traditional media clippings, archiving media mentions both present and historical, researching and maintaining statistics, assisting in preparation for press conferences and pre/post game media availability, maintaining both the press box and media work room and distributing event/game credentials. Interns will be expected to attend all special events and games to assist in editing and writing the post-game/event online stories, distribute stats and game tapes to coaches and issue necessary details to members of the press. Interns will learn the importance of digital media as well as print media. This is a great opportunity for any aspiring journalist or public relations student to add to their portfolio by writing articles for NewYorkIslanders.com, drafting corporate press releases and working with the media. A strong background in writing AP Style is recommended. Video experience as far as shooting and editing packages is not a requirement but highly regarded. Familiarity with social media is also a must
