Overview:
Founded in 2011, Philadelphia Mans Basketball League (PMBLeague) is Center City Philadelphia’s only Basketball League for Young Professionals. PMBLeague combines the most popular elements of fantasy sports and high-level recreational athletics. This exciting combination produces Philadelphia’s most competitive, fastest growing and most interactive basketball social network.
As a result of the selective application process, PMBLeague is filled with Philadelphia’s elite males ranging from the ages of 21-40. The members are in the fields of law, medicine, professional sports, pharmaceutical sales, hospitality, and real-estate, amongst many others.
PMBLeague aims to serve Philadelphia’s communities by providing young male professionals with a creative, exciting and completely interactive social basketball atmosphere.
Opportunity:
PMBLeague is looking for candidates who are in college at any level and looking to gain experience in the sport industry. College student can be seeking an internship for class credit or industry related experience. There are flexible hours during the week, but most interns are required to work nights during the week around class schedule. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn. Candidates who have a strong understanding of basketball are preferred. Any candidate with high motivation and determination will be strongly considered.
Marketing
- Assist the marketing department with the coordination of promotional materials for various events held by the PMBLeague
- Assist with the maintenance of contact lists / databases
- Participate in brainstorming sessions with Marketing staff
- Assist with creating presentations, charts, and graphs
- Perform other objectives and projects as assigned
- Assist the graphic design department in creating logos for various events and promotional activities
Public Relations
- Assist with draft press releases and articles for use in promoting various events
- Assemble media kits and copy points for radio, magazines, newspapers, and television
- Brainstorm publicity opportunities with the PR team
- Participate in the creation of game-day publications
- Write feature stories and game recaps on the various teams in the league following game nights
- Perform all other objectives and projects as assigned
Game Night Operations
- Learn to plan and execute game-day activities, from set-up to post game breakdown
- Assist with the scheduling of teams, referees, and gymnasiums for each game night
- Help to organize the PMBL store to promote the league to the members of the league and those outside the league
- Perform all other objectives and projects as assigned
Statistics (Completed every game night)
- Learn to record, decipher, and log the box score of every game throughout the season
- Learn to record, update team statistics for both teams during each game
- Learn to use a computer software similar to StatCrew to track live stats for each game
- Work the scoreboard, keeping track of the score, game time, and shot clocks
- Assist in set up of promotional materials from our various sponsors
- Perform all other objectives and projects as assigned
Player Evaluations and Scouting
- Assist the scouting department in analyzing and be familiar with every player’s attributes in the league to create a player bio
- Assist in the evaluation process during the pre-draft workouts to determine the player’s ability and draft stock
- Understand the various player attributes ranging from shooting, scoring, passing, dribbling, defending, rebounding, and basketball IQ
- Assist in creating a captain manual that has extensive information on each player’s strengths and weaknesses entering the draft
