The New York Islanders are seeking a creative and hard-working individual to support the Communications department as an intern, with the primary focus on media relations and writing.
The right individual must take great pride in their work and pay strong attention to detail. Applicants must have a strong understanding of traditional and non-traditional media; they must know the similarities and differences. They must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, while keeping organized and maintaining high standards in all work. Needs to be able to work as part of a team or individually and take constructive criticism to improve their skills.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitor daily content and fan engagement on various Islanders social media sites, including:
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Foursquare, Google+, YouTube and Flickr
- Keep fans engaged online throughout all home and road games
- Manage and monitor spam and commenting modules on social sites, as well as initiate fan discussion
and engage with fans across multiple social platforms
- Research best practices and other ways to improve the Islanders social media platforms, from
promotions to interactivity
- Help to identify Islanders fan groups and encourage displaced fans to join our communities and
participate through various social media platforms
- Assist with planning, promotion and execution of Isles Meetups throughout the season
- Documenting various Isles events and games by uploading pictures and videos to our social sites.
- Track and monitor success of online initiatives using various analytic tools to produce daily, weekly and
monthly reports to find areas for improvement.
- Researching potential vendors for the Isles to partner with for future social media engagements
- Assist with other communications duties as necessary
Qualifications:
- Trustworthy, polite, positive, respectful self-starter who works well with others
- Thorough understanding of social media platforms and how the Islanders desire to be branded in
the online space
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Detail-oriented and strong organization and project management skills
- Video experience, such as shooting and editing with Final Cut Pro is also highly regarded
- Must have strong hockey knowledge
