POLITICAL REPORTING INTERNS (February – May 2013)
The Politics & Journalism Semester
Washington, D.C.
Application Deadline: October 12
Interested in a career in political reporting? Want to spend spring semester in Washington, D.C.? If you’re a print or broadcast journalism major, consider applying for The Politics & Journalism
Semester, a program that attracts top college journalists to our nation’s capital each semester.
You will learn about campaign, governance and interest group politics in twice-weekly seminars. You also will receive practical experience and exposure to national politics as reporting interns in major Washington news bureaus.
Students receive a $3,000 stipend to assist with the cost of locating and living in Washington four months. There is no tuition charge but you must make your own living arrangements.
The program is open to undergraduates and graduate students; participants must be at least second term juniors. Applicants must demonstrate substantial interest in political journalism as a career goal. Strong preference is given to those with reporting, writing and producing experience at school or other papers and broadcast outlets; published writing samples (from college or other publications) are essential for print-oriented students.
Interested students must apply through participating schools of communication and journalism. The nominating committee at Grady College may propose up to two students per semester; the nominees are then interviewed by phone by the program director. Winter/Spring
class members are notified of status by late November.
